Press Release No. 63, TRAVEL COMFORTABLY WITH PAYING LESSER FARE

                                                                 SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

Press Release No. 63  Dt. 10.08.2018

TRAVEL COMFORTABLY WITH PAYING LESSER FARE

South Western Railway did dynamic fare fixing in Bengaluru-Mysuru section for Train No. 12007/12008 Shatabdi Express which is first such experiment in Indian Railways to decide the fares based on traffic pattern. This measure has proved to successful. Railways gained by way of increased occupancy levels and earnings. This measure is beneficial for passengers to get travel comfortably for paying relatively lesser fare.

This initiative has been recognized at national level and Railway Board has directed other Railway Zones to adopt this model in select sections.

Based on traffic pattern and timings, some specific trains in specific sections will have less occupancy   in AC coaches but traffic of regular short distance travelers will be there in the section .Example for same would be Mysuru-Bengaluru section where majority of passengers in long distance trains will board from /alight at Bengaluru station.

Recently powers to address this kind of situation   by proliferating afore said model of dynamic fare fixing, done first in Indian Railways for Shatabdi train by SWR, have been delegated to General Managers of Zonal Railways. This delegation of powers was done in order to expedite the processes. This to encourage passengers to travel short distances in 3rd AC coaches by reduce fare of 3rd AC, to that of chair car. The fares of Chair car are substantially less than that of 3rdAC and by paying these fares passengers can comfortably travel in superfast trains in 3 rd AC. This will increase journey experience

In this regard, South Western Railway has declared that AC-3 Tier Coaches of following trains will be treated as AC Chair Car in Passenger Reservation System in the sections identified with effect from the dates mentioned below.
