3707 PEOPLE PROSECUTED FOR TRESPASSING

Nationwide campaign by Indian Railways has been launched against trespassing and the dangerous consequences thereof.  South Western Railway holds priority to Safety of rail users and the public as foremost. Every effort is made to discourage rail users, general public from indulging in any practice detrimental to their individual safety, including trespassing of Railway tracks.

In SWR, in 2017, 2150 Persons were arrested and prosecuted by RPF for trespassing and  a fine of  Rs.8,41,370 /- was imposed o­n them. In 2018, till Sep 1557 People were arrested and prosecuted by RPF for trespassing. Under Section 147 of IR act, total fine of Rs. 4,97,860 was imposed o­n them by courts.

The following precautions will ensure safety of the Rail users/General Public

ØDo not trespass railway tracks at Railway stations or in mid-section. Make use of Foot Over Bridges, Subways, Road Over/Under Bridges, Rail crossings etc. to cross railway tracks.

ØDo not use mobile phones, while walking near to railway tracks or while boarding/alighting the trains.

ØDo not gather or indulge in any activity or in the vicinity of railway tracks.

ØDo not indulge in any form of photography including taking selfies in the vicinity of railway tracks.

ØDo not stand o­n the foot board of trains or o­n the edge of platforms.

ØDo not board/alight trains o­n the wrong side at Railway stations.

ØDo not board/alight a running train or crowd the entrance of the coach, which hampers the movement of other passengers.

 It shall also be noted that any person found trespassing the Railway track will be liable for prosecution under section 147 of the Railways Act, 1989 which entails punishment with imprisonment for a term up to six months, or with fine Rs.1000/- (One thousand rupees) or both.

REQUEST FOR BETTER SERVING

South western Railway requests passengers please do not endanger your life and others and help Railways to provide better services by follows following guidelines.

ØDo not carry explosive and dangerous goods like Fire, Crackers, Gas Cylinder and Gun Powder etc.

ØDo not carry inflammable substances like Kerosene, Petrol etc.

ØDo not light up stoves inside the train compartment or station premises.

ØDo not smoke in train compartment/station premises since it’s strictly prohibited.

Carriage of dangerous or offensive goods unlawfully is punishable with a fine up to Rs. 1000/- or imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or both and shall also be liable for any loss, injury and damage which may be caused by reason of bringing such goods o­n the Railway.
