RAIL SOUDHA  BAGGED NATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION AWARD

South Western Railwayhas bagged 2nd prize in National Energy Conservation Award [NECA] for the year 2018 under  office building category for its Zonal Headquarters Office “Rail Soudha”, despite tough competition from participants of and other  Govt. sectors (including State PWD, CPWD & PHED) of different states, Zonal Railways.

On 14th December 2018, Smt. Sumitra Mahajan, Hon’ble Speaker of Lok Sabha & Shri R. K. Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy presented the award to Principal Chief Electrical Engineer Shri Rajiv Kumar, & Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer, Hubballi Division, Shri Vamsi Krishna,at Award Ceremony held in New Delhi.

SWR has won this prestigious award for the first time. This could be achieved by taking energy conservation initiatives like installation of 250 KWp Rooftop Solar System o­n Rail Soudha which generates approximately 2.5 Lakh units per annum catering nearly 60-70% energy requirements of Rail Soudha and 100% replacement of conventional light fittings with energy efficient LED fittings, in addition to other many other green measures. The overall annual savings in Rail Soudha work out to be approximately Rs. 11.44 Lakhs. This is a recognition of various green initiatives implemented in recent past. In addition to this, following Service Buildings are also provided with solar capacity apart from Rail Soudha.

So far 1.965 KWP of rooftop solar system has been installed o­n workshop & Sheds and 2.925 KWP has been installed administration buildings of South Western Railways.
