Shri PREM CHAND has taken over the charge as Chief Safety Officer, South Western Railway on 20th February, 2017 at Hubballi.
Belonging to the 1984 batch of Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), Shri PREM CHAND has done his B.Tech., in Electrical Engineering from IIT, Delhi, worked on various important posts in Northern Railway, RDSO Lucknow, Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala, over Indian Railways. Worked as Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Hubballi Division and Chief Electrical Traction Engineer (CETE) in South Western Railway, prior to his present posting of CHIEF SAFETY OFFICER, SWR.
During his tenure in RDSO & RCF Kapurthala, he has contributed significantly in the Electrical System Designs, development of electrical equipment designs, formulating quality assurance plans/test procedures for Air Conditioned (AC) & Train Lighting (TL) Coaches especially LHB type Rajdhani, Garib Rath, Defence coaches etc.Played Pivotal role in successful commissioning of indigenously developed/manufactured LHB Coaches (including Buffet and High Capacity Power Cars) during final in house testing at RCF Kapurthala and in the fieldof five (05) Bombay-New Delhi Rajdhani LHB Rakes at Bombay Central, Western Railway as Team leader.
While in RDSO he was also instrumental in development of 25KW and 4.5KW Universal Electronic Regulator cum Rectifying Unit (ERRU), 25KW Conventional Alternator and Regulator, 1100Ah VRLA & Low maintenance Batteries, high life V-Belts both for AC & TL Coaches.
