South Western Railway lends a helping hand to victims of Kerala Flood

       South Western Railway has o­nce again risen to the occasion in lending necessary assistance to the victims of natural calamity. In view of the recent devasting floods in Kerala state, Hubballi division of South Western Railway has a dispatched a special vehicle parcel unit (VPU coach)of 23 Tonnes capacity containing essential items to flood hit Kerala.  This initiative was madeunder the leadership of Shri A.K. Gupta, General Manager of South Western Railway. Volunteers of Bharat Scouts & Guides andrailway staff of Hubballi division participated in door-to-door collection of essential items like groceries, bedsheets, drinking water, mosquito repellents, sarees, and other items. Such door-to-door collection was arranged at all the railway colonies over Hubballi division from 18th August to 21st August, 2018.South Western Railway Welfare Women’s Organization (SWRWWO) and staff of Hubballi division have contributed immensely towards this noble cause. The special parcel van was attached by Train No.16536 Golgumbaz express o­n 20.08.2018 and will be further dispatched to Kerala by convenient train.A team of Bharat Scouts & Guides have been deputed to travel along with the VPU to deliver the relief materials to Deputy Commissioner. Apart from the measures, South Western Railway will also carry relief materials to Kerala free of cost as per the directives of Railway Board. These materials shall be addressed to the concerned District Magistrates of flood affected districts in Kerala.
