                                                                    SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY

Press Release No. 204  Dt.   09.01.2019

One Rake of Train No. 12295/12296 KSR Bengaluru – Danapur – KSR Bengaluru Sanghamitra Express will be provided with LHB coaches with effect from KSR Bengaluru on 13.01.2019, 18.01.2019, 23.01.2019, 28.01.2019, 02.02.2019, 07.02.2019, 12.02.2019, 17.02.2019, 22.02.2019, 27.02.2019, 04.03.2019, 09.03.2019, 14.03.2019, 19.03.2019, 24.03.2019, 29.03.2019 and from Danapur on 15.01.2019, 20.01.2019, 25.01.2019, 30.01.2019, 04.02.2019, 09.02.2019, 14.02.2019, 19.02.2019, 24.02.2019, 01.03.2019, 06.03.2019, 11.03.2019, 16.03.2019, 21.03.2019, 26.03.2019 and  31.03.2019.

Out of Five rakes, one rake will be replaced with LHB Rake. Another Four rakes will be replaced shortly.

The LHB coaches are designed for higher speed and have fire-retardant qualities. They are anti-telescopic and fitted with anti-role bars. The sturdy and robust design is more safer than conventional coaches.  These coaches, manufactured under technology transfer from Germany, have automatic couplers to join two coaches, unlike conventional coaches where one needs to go inside the coach and move through the vestibule to uncouple two coaches; these advanced couplers can be very easily uncoupled from the outside. Thus they are very much helpful from safety point of view. The LHB coaches are fitted with microprocessor controlled high capacity air conditioning system, which gives passengers better comfort during summer and winter season.

The modern coaches are more comfortable, have a higher life-span of 35 years against ICF's 25 years, and also have a 12%-15% higher passenger capacity. The coaches have additional amenities like modular & elegant light fittings, halogen reading lights for individual seats, moveable/sliding coat hooks, upgraded higher capacity power car for end-on generation, controlled discharge toilet system (CDTS).

85 conventional coaches on 11 rakes of 9 trains have been provided with LHB Coaches over South Western Railway up to till now. It is planned to convert all long distance trains with LHB coaches gradually.
