SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY CELEBRATES
70th REPUBLIC DAY
South Western Railway Headquarters celebrated the 70th Republic Day on 26th January, 2019, at the Railway Sports Ground, Club Road, Hubballi. Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, General Manager was the Chief Guest. He unfurled the National Flag, inspected the parade and received General Salute from the Parade.
In his address, Shri Ajay Kumar Singh said that Indian Railways is on a journey of transformation and is rapidly expanding its network. Performance of South Western Railway in the current year till the end of the third quarter is extremely promising. The Gross earnings till end of Dec’2018 are Rs.4319 Crore that is Rs.132 Cr over that of last year. During this period, we achieved loading of 27 Million Tonnes of freight & carried around 5.1 Lakh passengers per day.
On Passenger front, this year 6 pairs of new train services have been introduced and 2 train services have been extended. To meet the demand of rail users and deal with extra rush of passengers, SWR has risen to the occasion and till Dec 2018, 78 Suvidha Trains and 3787 Special Trains were run.
“Safety first and safety always” is the motto of Rail all shall imbibe same in letter and spirit. Several steps have been direction. Timely completion of safety related ensuring availability of all safety items for maintenance of assets has been ensured. Our safety However, few unfortunate incidents have come to notice which indicate the need to reinforce our efforts. He reiterate that Railway is firmly committed to safety.
We were able to manage 78% Punctuality in spite of massive track renewal & maintenance works. Lot of initiatives have been taken for improving mobility over our network. 44 permanent speed restrictions have been relaxed this year and at 62 stations speed on loop lines has been increased from 15 Kmph to 30 Kmph. Sectional speed has been increased on 663Km in this Railway.
Special thrust is being given to upgrade infrastructure and line capacity on Indian Railways. In this direction, on SWR, an average of more than 200 KM of new assets are being added every year. During the current year 2018-19, 73 Km of doubling has been commissioned so far in Chickjaur - Tholahunse, Arsikere - Karadi and Koppal - Ginigera - Munirabad sections. Further, 125 km of doubling and new line is planned for commissioning till 31.03.2019.A landmark in Oct’ 2018, when South Western Railway was declared free of all unmanned Level Crossing gates. Works for large number of Road Over Bridges / Road Over Bridges are also in progress that will help in reducing road traffic congestion at level crossings and achieve our mission towards eliminating Level Crossing gates. So far 4 Road Over Bridges and 45 Road Under Bridges/Subways have been completed and another 15 ROB/RUB/LHSs are slated for completion during this financial year.
Train Captains have been nominated in 71 pairs of trains at SWR. 36 number of Hand Held Terminals (HHTs) have been provided to Train Ticket Examiners as an environment friendly measure and also to facilitate real time allotment of vacant berths arising thereby ensuring better berth utilization. To provide better facilities to passengers, a host of passenger amenity works are being taken up.
“Swachch Bharat Mission” has now been taken up with a new vigourin SWR with Officers and staff rendering “Shramdhan”, devoting 2 hours per week towards cleanliness. and Eco-friendly b planned to be pr coaches of SWR by this finan Izzat Ghars are being provided at Stations & Public places to eliminate open defecation by the public and maintain cleanliness in station areas.
Our “Rail Soudha” has bagged Second National Energy Conservation Award [NECA] for 2018 under Offices of Govt. Sector of solar rooftop panels of zones in grievan strengthening its The most valuable asset of SWR is its diligent and dedicated workforce. Project Saksham was launched last year and 100% of staff have been trained under Saksham. Promotions to record number of 1154 staff have been given till December2018.
As measures of social responsibility, Antyodaya centers have been launched by South Western Railway at Hubballi, Mysuru& Bengaluru Stations. These centers are aimed at imparting basic education, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to the underprivileged children by providing meals, study material etc., free of cost.
I take this opportunity to congratulate all the officers, supervisors and staff for their outstanding work. Our Scouts & Guides are doing a commendable job and have rendered all possible assistance to the victims of natural calamity in Kerala.
Sports persons of our Railway have performed well. Our Women’s Basket Ball team and Cycling team have emerged Champions in the recently held Inter-Railway Championships at Secunderabad. The Swimming team has also emerged Champions at the Swimming championship organized by SWRSA at Hubballi. Civil Defence Organization has been active in improving training & skills to employees who volunteered to provide immediate assistance while handling with emergencies/calamities.
All these achievements would not have been possible without the positive support of the recognized trade union and other associations of South Western Railway. I thank them for their co-operation and maintaining harmonious industrial relations. We appreciate the continuous contribution of South Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organization (SWRWWO) in the upliftment of Railway men and their families and thank them whole heatedly for the same.
After the address of Chief Guest, a colorful cultural programme was performed by railway employees. Scouts & Guides displayed Band Music. Later, Group Dance was performed by the Children of Railway School, South Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation School. Patriotic songs were sung by railway employees.
March past has been conducted with RPF Contingents from Hubballi, Bengaluru and Mysuru Divisions, Civil Defence, Scouts and Guides. Later, dog show was organized by RPF Dog Squad. Use of dog squad for tracing thieves, detecting explosives was demonstrated.
On the occasion, Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, General Manager distributed cash awards to the staff, march-past contingents, and performers of the cultural programme. Railway Officers and staff in large number participated in the Celebrations along with their family members.

At Hubballi Division
Hubballi Division of South western Railway celebrated the 70th Republic Day at Railway Institute (South) sport complex, Hubballi. Shri Rajesh Mohan, Divisional Railway Manager unfurled the national flag and inspected the parade and received General Salute from the Parade.
In his address Shri Rajesh Mohan said that, during the current financial year, upto December ’18, Hubballi Division has carried 278 Lakh passengers and earned Rs. 265 Crores. The freight loading upto December, 2018 has been 23 Million Tonnes, leading to an earning of Rs.2220 Crores. The Gross Earnings of the Division is Rs. 2522 crores which is 6.11% more than that of the corresponding period of last financial year.
He said that during the current financial year, Hubballi division has attached 603 extra coaches by various trains to accommodate wait-listed passengers. 666 trips of special trains have been run to clear the extra rush. To fulfill the persistent demands of public, additional stoppages for 19 pair of trains have been provided at 30 railway stations, he added.
Speaking about the security performance of the Division, Shri Mohan said that during the current financial year, RPF has rescued 393 deserted children and handed over them to their parents or NGOs. on an average, 60 RPF personnel are deployed to escort 15 important trains over Hubballi Division. RPF have recovered the left over luggage of passengers to the tune of Rs.7.77 Lakh and handed over them to their owners.
He said that cleanliness continues to be a mission area. on-Board House Keeping Service (OBHS) has been provided on 13 long distance trains facilitating cleaning of trains during run. ‘Aap ki Raay’ has been introduced in all the OBHS trains of Hubballi division in which passenger feedback is collected through tabs and manual collection of feedback is avoided. 1994 bio-toilets have been fitted in 555 coaches of trains maintained by Hubballi division.
