Press Release No. 379  Dt. 07.02.2020

NEW BG LINE BETWEEN DHARWAD (KYARKOPPA) AND BELAGAVI VIA KITTUR, M.K. HUBBALLLI & BAGEWADI APPROVED

Direct train line between Dharwad and Belagavi has been the long standing demand of people of North Karnataka. The present Rail connectivity between these two important cities through Londa junction is circuitous route. The time taken for Rail travel is approximately 3 hrs.

After Shri Suresh Angadi took over as Minister of State of Railways, he immediately got the survey for this Railway line sanctioned in August 2019.

Though earlier the initial survey was done in 2013-14, as the proposal was not approved then, it was decided to take up fresh survey. The work was entrusted to K-RIDE.  The survey was completed in record time of two years.

Detailed Project Report for 90 Km New BG line between Dharwad (Kyarkoppa) and Belagavi (via Kittur, M.K. Hubballi & Bagewadi) was submitted to Railway Board in November 2019.  This new BG line will have 11 stations (including 4 existing stations). The total cost of the new BG line is approx. Rs.988.3 Crore.

With this new line the distance between the three important cities of North Karnataka, Hubballi, Dharwad and Belagavi will reduce resulting in significant development.  Running time of trains between Hubballi to Belagavi is also expected to reduce. The New BG line will have following stations i.e. 1) Dharwad 2) Kyarakoppa 3) Mammigatti 4) Teguru 5) Kittur 6) Hulikatti 7) M.K. Hubballi 8) Bagewadi 9) Kanvikarvinkoppa 10) Desur & 11) Belagavi.
