VINTAGE CLOCK REPAIRED AND INSTALLED AT MYSURU RAILWAY STATION
Mysuru Railway station is one of the oldest stations on SWR and all efforts are being taken to maintain the Heritage items of the station during redevelopment works that are being taken up to improve better amenities for passenger.
The Vintage Station Clock an intrinsic part of every Railway Station, on Platform No.1 of Mysuru Station had stopped working and was beyond repair due to non availability of parts. This clock is a drum type clock which has two traditional faces mounted on single frame with wooden structure and aluminum frame. All efforts to repair this wall clock was of no avail as spare parts suitable to clock dial were not available in the open market or even clock mechanics. They informed that the parts were worn out and not replaceable as they were of an outdated and obsolete model. This clock is more than 50 years old. It was installed around 1960.
Keeping in mind the Heritage value of this vintage clock, Signal and Telecommunication department of Mysuru department took it as a challenge to restore the Clock. Shri Arun Kumar, SSE/Tele/Mysuru, with the support of Sr. DSTE/MYS took initiative and went all out to visit antique Clock Mechanics at Mysuru and Bengaluru dealing in such vintage Clocks. After continuous perseverance with a few antique clock keepers in Mysuru and Bengaluru, they managed to fix the flaw and start the clock clicking.
After further tinkering and painting the clock was restored to its original shape and working condition. With mounting bolts and adjustments the vintage clock has been re-fixed at original place and put up at the same location.
Thanks to the initiative and drive of the Signal and Telecommunication Department of Mysuru division the Vintage clock is mounted back and ticking.
