The Railway Museum at Hubballi commissioned o­n 31st July.The Railway Museum at Hubballi was the brain child of Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, General Manager, SWR.Shri P K Mishra, Additional General Manager, a keen researcher of Heritage o­n Indian Railways has headed team for setting up this museum.Shri Ravi Kumar, PCME and Chief Heritage Officer o­n South Western Railway has been instrumental in the museum work.Shri Arvind Malkhede, DRM/UBL has ensured that all infrastructure works and beautiful lighting which is the hallmark of the museum could be completed in spite of lockdown and restrictions due to Covid.Kum Roopa Srinivasan, PFA and Heritage consultant has been instrumental in giving valuable inputs and also setting up of the Museum. Shri Neeraj Jain, Chief Workshop Manager has ensured Heritage materials are restored for display for the public.

The unique feature of this museum is everything is being done with available resources by mobilizing materials and man power. Shri A.K. Singh said that this museum will be a land mark in Hubballi and it could be commissioned with team work of all branches in Railways.

Commissioning of museum was done o­n 31st July 2020 in the background of the setting sun and beautiful lighting o­n the majestic platform with ornate pillars between the Restaurant car & Theatre Car.

Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR o­n the occasion released a Pamphlet o­n the Museum showcasing all artefacts in the items - being displayed at the two cottages, Malaprabha, Ghataprabha and also the outdoor section.

Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM, SWR also launched a Coffee Table Book "Making of the Railway Museum at Hubballi". This booklet describes how the idea of museum at Hubballi was conceived and executed.  It also catalogues all the heritage items in the museum along with brief history and description of items.

A Book o­n the History of Southern Mahratta Railway and West of India Portugese Guaranteed Railway Company,   authored by Shri P K Mishra, Additional General Manager, SWR was released by Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR.   This book is prepared based o­n primary reference sources and official records and brings about the fascinating account of the origin and growth of company railways of this region.

SMR and WIPGR are the early pioneering Railways that served this region, ushering in Railway line Hospet-Castlerock-Vasco.

A Hand Book for children o­n how to use Railways, written by Kum Roopa Srinivasan, Principal Financial Advisor and Heritage consultant o­n SWR was released by Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR.

Shri P K Mishra, Additional General Manager, Smt. Sujata Singh , President SWRWWO, Shri Ravi Kumar, PCME & Chief Heritage Officer,  Kum Roopa Srinivasan, PFA and Heritage consultant,  Shri Anil Pavithran, PCCM, Shri Vipul Kumar, PCE, Shri B G Mallya , PCEE, Shri  M. A. V. Ramanujan  PCSO, Shri Arvind Malkhede, DRM/UBL, Shri Neeraj Jain, CWM  Shri S. Katware, CMM/RS, Shri Koushal Kishore, CPD/BW, Shri S.K. Jha, ADRM/UBL   and senior Railway officers of SWR were present o­n the occasion.

"Suruchi” Cafeteria in the museum premises has also been opened o­n this occasion.
