As part of Swachhta Pakhwara, a cleanliness drive being organized from 16thSeptember,2020 to 30th September 2020 over Indian Railways, an awareness programme o­n plastic hazards was conducted at Hubballi Railway station today. Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR and Smt. Sujata Singh, President of SWRWWO/HQ were the chief guests.  Shri Ajay Kumar Singh said that  Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which was  started 6 years back has brought visible transformation in India.  The government is making efforts to ban Single-use plastic as it is harmful to our environment and we as the citizens of this country should extend full cooperation by not using Single-use plastic.  He said that any country which is recognized as civilized and advanced, gives priority to cleanliness.

Shri Arvind Malkhede, Divisional Railway Manager said that in Hubballi Division, teams have been formed to carry out cleanliness drive at various stations and they are participating in the drive with great deal of enthusiasm. Each day has been assigned with different activities like Swachh Awareness, Swachh Samwad, Swachh Stations, Swachh Rail Gadi, Swachh Ahar, Swachh Parisar, Swachh Neer, Swachh Competition with special focus in o­ne particular theme o­n each day.  o­n 2nd October, o­n the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Community Service Day will be observed by conducting mass shramdan.

Shri P. Ravikumar, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer said that last year SWR has conducted 100 days of Shramdan. This year, due to COVID-19 pandemic, it was curtailed.  However, as now the situation is returning to normalcy, he wished to restart weekly Shramdan to contribute towards clean India. He said that Single-use plastic is a major threat to our environment because it degrades very slowly resulting in plastic pollution. He appreciated the SWRWWO and Divisional Environment & Housekeeping wing for sponsoring cloth bags for distribution to railway passengers.

On the occasion Cloth Bag Store was inaugurated at Hubballi railway station by Smt. Sujata Singh and cloth bags were distributed to passengers of Hampi Express.  They were also advised to use cloth bags, jute bags, paper straws etc. in place of Single-use plastic materials.

Scouts & Guides team presented songs & dance o­n the theme of cleanliness.

Chouhan, Principal Chief Security Commissioner; Shri Alok Kumar, Principal Chief Personnel Officer; Smt. Meenal Gandhe, President of SWRWWO/Hubballi Division;  Shri S.K. Jha, Additional Divisional Railway Manager; Shri Vishwas Kumar, Additional Divisional Railway Manager; Shri S.K. Bhattacharjee, Senior Divisional Environment & House Keeping Manager; Shri Syed Imtiaz Ahamed, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and other officers, staff were present.
