WORLD AIDS DAY - 01.12.2020 OBSERVED on SWR
World AIDS Day is being observed on December 1st. on this day, people worldwide unite in the fight against AIDS, to show support to those who are living with HIV and to commemorate those who have died from AIDS. World AIDS Day was first observed in 1988 as the first-ever global health day.
World AIDS day was observed on SWR at Hospitals & Health Units over the Zone. At Bengaluru Awareness programmes were organised and Dr.Jayasheela, ACMS gave a lecture to create awareness about HIV. At Health Unit Cantonment Dr.Narayanswamy, ACMS/RH/Bengaluru spoke about precautions to be taken to avoid spread of HIV. At CMS/Bengaluru all the doctors, paramedical staff, and around 50 railway beneficiaries and housekeeping staff participated in the above programme.
Health Awareness programme on World Aids Day was organised over Hubballi and Mysuru Division also. Dr. Suresh Babu, ACMS/Hubbali welcomed the gathering and highlighted about theme of the year “ENDING THE HIV/AIDS EPIDEMIC: RESILLIENCE AND IMPACT”. Dr. C.M. Ravi, CMS/Hubballi spoke about HIV/AIDS, method of spread, signs and symptoms, Diagnosis, screening, treatment, stigma and discrimination and prevention & importance of creating awareness to all and that could protect all from HIV/AIDS. About 120 people attended the programme at Workshop, EMD SHED and CHI/COL/ Hubballi including employees and their Staff. At Mysuru awareness programmes were also organized at RH/MYS, and health units of Mysore Division.
Programmes were also organised at the Health Unit/Hosapete, Bagalkot, Castle Rock, Belagavi, Gadag, Bellari and Alnavar. Programmes were also organised at Hosapete Station
The various points highlighted during the progrmmme are as under:
ØAwareness regarding spread of HIV and its prevention, educated regarding symptoms and treatment etc.
ØEducation of patients about safe sex practices and educating them to eradicate the stigma
ØAwareness talk and discussion about HIV/AIDS in detail
ØDisplay of posters and distribution of pamphlets on various aspects like preventive measures of HIV/AIDS, screening in pregnancy for HIV/AIDS during pregnancy, safe blood donation etc. to railway beneficiaries and passengers at stations.
At Gadag Health Unit, State Govt ICTC program officers and staffs and councilor were invited to give a briefed on all the aspects of HIV/AIDS. The officials gave a brief on the Signs, symptoms, prevention and treatment. They also informed of the help given to HIV positive patients. Free rapid HIV test was conducted for all staffs who attended the programe and results were given to them in 15 min, Total 32 samples tested on 01.12.2020.
All the above programmes were organised under the guidance of Shri Vilas Gunda, PCMD/SWR.
Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR said that this year World AIDS Day holds immense significance as we are going through an unprecedented global pandemic – Covid-19 – which has disrupted our lives like never before. However, HIV-AIDS still remains a major global public health issue and there have been additional challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
