SPECIAL COURSE HELD BY MDZTI DHARWAD FOR TTEs
on ‘AWARENESS IN PREVENTION OF ILLEGAL
WILDLIFE TRADE IN RAILWAYS’
A Special one Day Workshop was conducted by MDZTI (Multi-Disciplinary Zonal Training Institute), Dharwad for TTEs of SWR on ‘Awareness in Prevention of Illegal Wildlife Trade in Railways’ today (12.01.2021). This workshop was held in collaboration with subject matter experts of Humane Society International-India, Hubballi Dharwad, facilitated by Shri Manjunath Chavan IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, Dharwad Circle.
The workshop comprised of sessions on sensitization about illegal wildlife trade and transport, trends and implications of illegal wildlife trade; and covered relevant aspects of Wildlife Protection Act 1972, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, Awareness generation and inter-agency coordination, transport of animal rules 1978 etc.
Shri Anil Pavithran IRTS, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, SWR addressed trainees at the beginning and exhorted them to stay aware, vigilant and alert in curbing this menace of illegal wildlife trade in Railways. He sought a feedback from the field based on their experiences after the workshop. Shri Santosh Kenchappanavar, ACF Dharwad addressed the trainees and explained the subtle nuances of the definition of wildlife, the role of public transporter in preventing illegal trade thereby contributing to reduction of crime in this area. Shri Aneesh Hegde IRTS, Principal MDZTI addressed and said that this training was being organized for the first time ever in South Western Railway, and among other Railway zones as well. It was done as part of capacity building exercise for the TTEs who are the first point of contact for the travelling public, and therefore represent the ‘face’ of the Indian Railways.
Shri Hemanth Byatroy, Program Manager, HIS(Humane Society International) -India, Shri Sumanth Bindumadhav, Sr Manager, HIS-India and Adv. Shreya Paropkari, Sr. Manager, HIS-India conducted the detailed sessions on various aspects of the subject, as elucidated above.
