Safety has been the first and foremost priority of Railways always. During the last 6 years, 74 ROBs and 331 RUBs/Limited height Subways were constructed over SWR.
The construction of Limited Height Subways at Kamral&Cacora is another step towards Railways Mission to eliminate LC gates and improve safety.
The Limited Height Subways at Kamral is one of the persistent demands of Shri Nilesh Cabral who had mentioned about the plight of residents of 70 odd houses in Kamral village who are landlocked between Railway line and river for over a century. He suggested that SWR shall take action to address the genuine requirement of people.
That bridge being narrow and low height built only for passing of water was used by pedestrians and two-wheeler. Kamral Limited Height subway has been constructed at a cost of Rs 75 lakh. With the construction of this Limited Height Subway, 4 wheelers including emergency services like ambulance and fire, can access this part of the village.
At Cacora a new twin box Limited Height Subway to a public road on either side (2 Km total) will provide relief to the village population of around 2000 of Cacora, Baagwada and Khandiwada areas. Limited Height Subway 211 B has been constructed in lieu of LC No.16 in Sanvordem Yard. The Limited Height Subway is constructed at an approximate cost of Rs.3.05 Cr
The elimination of this level crossings at Sanvordem Yard will facilitate smooth and uninterrupted movement of road and rail traffic simultaneously. It also significantly enhances operational safety.
SWR is also taking up improvements to Station buildings by providing better passenger amenities, like foot over bridges, platform shelters, platform toilets, Ramp for physically challenged, and longer platforms to accommodate 24 coach trains for the convenience of passengers.
For easy movement of passengers across platforms, and yard, Foot Over bridge has been constructed at Sanvordem Railway station. The Foot Over Bridge has a length of 76 mtrs and width of 3 mtrs, which covers the entire station yard of six Railway tracks, including an Island platform. Besides, providing a convenient cross-over to Rail passengers, the over bridge also connects the road on either side of the station, thereby facilitating safe and smooth crossing of the station area by the local public. This FOB was constructed by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd at the cost of Rs. 2.10 Cr within a period of six months, he said.
