Press Release No. 426, SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY ACHIEVES A RECORD OF LOADING THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF WAGONS PER DAY

SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY ACHIEVES A RECORD

 OF LOADING THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF 

WAGONS PER DAY

SWR has loaded 2604 wagons o­n 26.03.2021 consisting of 2007 by Hubballi Division, 150 by Bengaluru Division, 447 by Mysuru Division which is the highest single day wagon loading (of the period from 2017 to 2021).

Also, o­n 25 March 2021 loaded 2594 wagons which is the second highest wagons loading during financial year 2020-21. 

SWR has been steadily loading above 3.10 Million Tonnes every month and so far loaded 37.40 Million Tonnes till 26th March 2021 which is about 97.4% of the target of the FY 2020-21.

In a bid to double the freight volume by 2024 and attract more freight traffic, the Ministry of Railways has advised Zonal Railways to set up Business Development Units (BDUs) at all zonal and divisional levels and stay in touch with industries and advertise the willingness of Railways “to attract new streams of traffic”.

Business Development Units (BDU) were set up o­n SWR in Apr. 2020, both at the Zonal and Divisional Levels, which have shown a consistent improvement in freight loading. A slew of freight incentive schemes and concessions were also announced to give boost to freight loading and attract customers to choose Railways as preferred mode of transport of goods and also to attract more commodities into freight basket of Railways.

Achievement of the highest single day freight loading has been possible with the consistent monitoring by Shri Hari Shankar Verma, Principal Chief Operating Manager and Shri S P Shastri, Chief Freight Transportation Manager at the Zonal Level and the Divisional teams of Operating Officers guided by Shri Arvind Malkhede, Divisional Railway Manager, Hubballi, Shri Ashok Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru & Shri Rahul Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru.

Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, General Manager, South Western Railway has informed that the freight operations are being ramped up and all out efforts are being made to ensure smooth and timely transportation of essential commodities. Shri Singh said that industries are now picking up and willing to transport more of Goods and Commodities due to flexible schemes, lower tariffs, faster movement, safe, secure, hassle free transportation by rail.
