South Western Railway and Hubballi Division celebrated 152ndBirth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji today (02.10.2021) at Hubballi.  This day also marks the conclusion day of fortnight long SwachhtaPakhwada conducted over South Western Railway from 16th September and observed as Community Service Day. Shri Sanjeev Kishore, GM/SWR led the team of South Western Railway in Shramdaan at Hubballi Workshop, Diesel locomotive shed Vinobanagar Staff Colonyand SSS Hubballi Railway Station.

At Diesel loco shed, Shri Sanjeev Kishore, General Manager, South Western Railway and other officers paid floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal  Bahadur Shastri. Later, participated in Shramdan at the Loco Shed premises. 

After the event at Diesel Loco Shed, they participated in Shramdan organized at Vinoba Nagar railway colony and distributed cloth bags to the colony dwellers and counselled them not to use Single-use plastic items.  A shramdan was also conducted at Railway Workshop.

At SSS Hubballi station a Shramdan was organized in the station premises in which Officers and staff participated with enthusiasm. Shri Sanjeev Kishore, GM/SWR; Shri P.K. Mishra, AGM/SWR; Shri Arvind Malkhede, Divisional Railway Manager; Shri P. Ravikumar, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer and others paid floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the station.   o­n the occasion prizes were distributed to the winners of Drawing Competition held for the students of Railway English Medium High School and SWRWWO English Medium High School as part of SwachhtaPakhwada o­n the theme ‘Cleanliness’.  Prizes were also distributed to Best kept Offices over the Zone. 

Speaking o­n the occasion, Shri Sanjeev Kishore, GM/SWR said that Railways should lead the country in every aspects including Swachhta.  He said that Mahatma Gandhiji used to travel through railways to have interaction with people. Mahatma emphasized o­n cleanliness. It is our responsibility to achieve his vision of Swachh Bharat through Swachh Rail. 

Shri Arvind Malkhede, Divisional Railway Manager briefed about the various activities taken as part of SwachhtaPakhwara over Hubballi Division.  He said that  in order to bring visible improvement in level of cleanliness, Hubballi Division conducted intensive cleanliness drive at Hubballi, Dharwad, Belagavi, Londa, Vasco Da Gama, Gadag, Vijayapura, Ballari, Hosapete and other stations.  There is a remarkable improvement in the area of cleanliness in Railways.  However, our efforts should continue to sustain the improvements achieved. 

On the occasion, cloth bags were distributed to passengers and counselled them not to use single use plastic items.  A NukkadNatak was presented by Bharat Scouts & Guides to spread awareness about cleanliness.  

Additional General Manager, Shri P.K. Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager, Hubballi, Shri Arvind Malkhede, Principal Heads of Departments& staff were present.
