RAILWAYS REGISTER HIGH CAPITAL EXPENDITURE
·Ministry of Railways spent 46.6% of its annual expenditure target during April-August 2023.
·During April – August 2023 SWR spent 49% of Capital Expenditure target.
·General Manager Shri Sanjeev Kishore stated that SWR is committed to develop high quality railway infrastructure.
In the period April – August 2023, the Ministry of Railways excluding the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India and Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation, has spent around ₹1.13 trillion (46.6 per cent) of the capex target of approximately ₹2.44 trillion. This is higher than that of NHAI (at 46.4% / ₹75,168 crore)
It may be noted that in Budget 2023, SWR had got the highest ever allocation in its history, with unprecedented capital infusion. High percentage of Capex utilisation implies fast pace of execution of various infrastructure projects underlining the commitment of Railways to enhance connectivity and passenger convenience, in the region.
SWR has utilised 49.4% out of the capital outlay of Rs. 5999 crore. Capital expenditure includes expenditure incurred on New Line, Doubling, Electrification, Traffic Facilities, Signalling and Telecom Infrastructure, Bridge Work, Customer Amenities, Safety infrastructure such as ROB, RUB, track renewals, computerization etc.
General Manager Shri Sanjeev Kishore has stated that SWR is playing a very important role in socio-economic development of the region through enhancement of infrastructure, improvement of railway safety and providing better connectivity to public.
