·General Manager Shri Sanjeev Kishore unfurled the national flag & inspected the parade at Railway Sports Ground, Hubballi

·SWR achieves Fourth position among all zonal railways in terms of punctuality.

·SWR received Certificate of Merit during National Energy Conservation Award 2023 for Energy Efficiency in the transport category o­n 14.12.2023.

·The Zone has secured the first position consecutively for two years i.e. 2022 & 2023 for the performance during Swachhata Pakhwada.

Shri Sanjeev Kishore, General Manager, SWR unfurled the tricolor at Railway Sports Ground, Club Road, today (26.01.2024) o­n the occasion of the 75th Republic Day Celebration.

Addressing o­n the occasion, he said that South Western Railway is playing a vital role in the development of the region by carrying Iron Ore, Steel, Coal and other raw materials for the industries, in addition to carrying passengers to all parts of the country.

He stated that, Gross originating revenue in this financial year so far is Rs. 6480.05 Cr, which is 11.57% more than that of the corresponding period of last year. During the financial year 2023-24 up to December, the number of passengers carried has gone up from 111.51 million to 122.78 million i.e. an increase of 10.11%. SWR has carried 39.64 million tonnes of Freight up to 23rd January 2024 during the financial year 2023-24, which is an increase of 8.8%. In the month of December 2023, SWR has loaded 4.68 million tonnes of originating freight which is the second highest loading in a month in the history of SWR.

He mentioned that, safety record of SWR continues to be o­ne of the best in Indian Railways. SWR has achieved fourth position among all Zones of Indian Railways in terms of punctuality.16 Road Over Bridges/Road Under Bridges have been commissioned and 06 Level Crossing gates have been closed in this financial year till date.

Shri Kishore informed that SWR has taken various initiatives towards environmental conservation and sustainability. In this financial year up to December, solar panels of 565 kWp capacity have been installed, elevating the total capacity of the zone to 5550 kWp.  This has resulted in a saving of approx. Rs. 2.6 crores per annum, o­n electricity charges.  During April to December 2023, incorporation of HOG system in 56 trains has resulted in saving of 73.73 lakh litres of high-speed diesel worth of Rs. 54.19 crores.

Meeting the demands of passengers, during April to December, 2023, 319 festival holiday special trains were run, 05 trains were extended 2,439 extra coaches were augmented and 36 trains were speeded up duly saving 610 minutes of journey time.  SWR has operated 10 trips of Karnataka Bharat Gaurav Kashi Darshan Train. In connection with Amrit Kalash Yatra, 02 special trains were run for the movement of delegates from Karnataka.

He expressed his happiness as SWR has secured the first position consecutively for two years i.e. 2022 & 2023 for the performance during Swachhata Pakhwada  and for winning the Shield in the Environment and Cleanliness category during 68th   Railway Week Central Function held at New Delhi in  jointly with Central Railway. 

General Managerpraised the Railway Protection Forces whoactively working towards curbing illegal activities such as touting and transportation of drugs. RPF is working to make our stations secure and safer through Operations Nanhe Farishte and Jeevan Rakshak. 297 children and 08 passengers have been rescued under these operations respectively, 146 touts cases were detected, 153 persons were prosecuted and 497 live tickets of value worth of Rs. 9,65,504/- seized during the financial year 2023-24 till date.

He congratulated to Sports team of SWR who have made a mark in sports achievements at international level by winning Gold Medal in Para Athletics, Silver Medal in Badminton during the 19th Asian Games held at Hangzhou, China, Silver Medal in World Railway Shooting Championship held at France and 2 Gold Medals in Taiwan International Open Cycling Cup held at Taiwan. The Zone has also made a mark by winning All India Railway Athletics Championship, All India Railway Swimming Championship, All India Railway Badminton Championship, All India Railway Cycling Championship, All India Railway Volleyball Championship and All India Railway Power Lifting Championship.

General Manager appreciated the work force of entire SWR for their committed work.  He expressed gratitude to office bearers of SWRMUs, Associations and SWR Women’s Welfare Organization, for their support in various initiatives.

After the address of Chief Guest, a colorful cultural programme was performed by children of SWR-WWO High School. Shri U. Subba Rao, Additional General Manager, Principal Heads of Departments of South Western Railway, senior officers and staffs were present.

Further, at SWR-WWO English Medium School, Gadag Road, Hubballi, Dr. Vandana Srivastava, President, SWR-WWO unfurled the national flag. Yoga was performed by the children of this school o­n this occasion.

Later, led by Dr. Vandana Srivastava, President, SWR Women Welfare Organization (SWR-WWO) donated Ovens and Tea/Coffee Vending Machine to Central Hospital Hubballi for benefits in patients.
