SWR REGISTERS EXCELLENT FREIGHT LOADING PERFORMANCE FROM APRIL-2023 TO JANUARY-2024

South Western Railway has been making significant progress in the freight and parcel transport sector.

On the freight sector, SWR has achieved originating freight loading of 40.96 Million Tonnes (MT) up to Jan-2024 which is an increase of 8.76% as compared to corresponding period of previous year.

In January 2024, SWR loaded 4.82 Million Tonnes of freight, the second-highest monthly loading after March 2023. o­n January 31, 2024, SWR achieved the second-highest single-day loading by loading 3431 wagons surpassing the previous best. The freight transport unit i.e NTKM (Net tonne Kilometre) has also clocked an impressive growth of 4.4% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

SWR has emerged as a preferred transportation option for automobile manufacturers, having transported 558 automobile rakes as of January 2024, a 37.1% increase compared to corresponding period of the previous year. Notable customers in this sector include TVS, KIA, Maruti Suzuki, Tata, and Toyota. In January 2024, SWR achieved its best-ever automobile loading in a month, with 69 automobile rakes loaded during Jan-2024 (Bengaluru-65 rakes, Mysuru-3 rakes, Hubballi-1 rake).

The freight basket of SWR includes substantial shipments of iron ore, cement, steel, mineral oil, fertilizer, RMSP, coal, food grains, containers, and various other commodities. As a result, these endeavors have generated a freight revenue amounting to Rs. 4055.32 crores as of January 2024, a 10.36% increase compared to the revenue earned during the corresponding period of the previous year.

SWR has also been actively reaching out to traders, farmers, and manufacturers to retain existing customers and attract new o­nes. The officers and staff are dedicated to a customer-first and solution-oriented approach, aiming to understand and address customer concerns effectively. This positive approach has led to an increase in automobile, iron ore loading.

General Manager Shri Sanjeev Kishore has congratulated the efforts of Officers and Staff, and also expressed gratitude to freight and parcel customers for retaining their trust with Railways.
