Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, General Manager, South Western Railway, Hubballi, conducted Annual Inspection of the Carriage and Repair Workshop, South Western Railway Hubballi today (28.01.2021).

Hubballi Workshop established in 1885 under Southern Mahratta Railway for maintenance of Meter Gauge Locos, Coaches and Wagons is a historic workshop that has transformed with time. The main activity of this workshop is Periodical Overhauling of Railway coaches.

Periodical Overhauling (POH) of ICF Coaches, POH of MEMU & DEMU Coaches, POH of BVZI Brake Vans, Tower Cars based o­n the schedule is done here.  In addition, conversion of non serviceable  BG coaches to NMG, RE etc, IOH of ICF Trolleys and also repairs to all type of wheels, DVs etc, is  being undertaken in the Workshop.

Principal Heads of various Departments Shri P. Ravi Kumar, PCME, ShriVipul Kumar, PCE, Shri Sanjay Agarwal, PCEE, Shri H S Verma, PCOM,  ShriAlok Kumar, PCPO, Shri P V Raja Sekhar, PCSTE, Shri G. V. Narayana Murthy, PCMM, KumRoopaSrinivasan, PFA, Shri Anil Pavithran, PCCM, Shri R S Chauhan, PCSC, Shri M. A. V. Ramanujan PCSO, Dr. Vilas Gunda PCMD accompanied Shri A. K. Singh, GM/SWR.

Shri Ajay Kumar Singh unveiled relocated   statue of Mahatma Gandhi (originally casted in this Workshop in 1949) at the entrance of Hubbali Workshop.

Smt. Sujata Singh, President SWRWWO inaugurated the Rang Manch, an auditorium for official programs and functions, employee self help kiosk, “I Luv UBLS” selfie point  (code for Hubballi Workshop)  and Garden in front of “VivekanandKash” Model Staff Room.

Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM/SWR inspected Bogie Repair Shop, Carriage Lift Shop, Production Shops, Wheel Shop, Paint shop and appreciated the good work done by the employees.

During the inspection, a traverser costing Rs.1.64 Cr which can be used for movement of coaches from o­ne line to another without shunting was inaugurated. Also the first 1st DEMU that has undergone POH at this Workshop was flagged off  byShri Singh and Principal Heads of the Departments. 

Shri Ajay Kumar Sing inaugurated the Wheel Press Machine and Industry 4.0 at Wheel shop. 

A center of excellence developed for POH of Air Break compress of BMBC & MEMU coaches was also made operational. A 100 meters Pit Line to facilitate the POH of LHB coaches, the state of the Art coaches was commissioned by Shri Singh.  A Garden at Material Stores Depot and a tree plantation drive by all PHODs at stores Depot was also done. MazdoorEkta Garden near Bogie shop developed by South Western Railway Mazdoor Union (SWRMU) was also inaugurated o­n the occasion.

The inspection concluded with a review performance of Workshop in which a Power Point presentation o­n the activities, highlights and innovations of the Workshop were complied, was presented byShriUmesh Kumar, Chief Workshop Manager.  Staff Unions met General Manager during the inspection and the latter enquired about staff welfare.
