Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, Reviews ongoing Redevelopment of Yesvantpur and Bengaluru Cantonment Railway Stations
Today, Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, conducted a review of the redevelopment projects underway at Yesvantpur and Bengaluru Cantonment Railway stations. He was accompanied by Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, Hon’ble Minister of State for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and Labour & Employment, Government of India, Shri P C Mohan Hon’ble Member of Parliament Bengaluru Central, Shri Rizwan Arshad Hon’ble MLA Shivaji Nagar.
These projects aim to transform stations into world-class facilities, enhancing passenger experience and modernizing infrastructure facilities, and augmenting capacity to meet growing demands.
Yesvantpur and Bengaluru Cantonment stations are pivotal hubs in Karnataka’s railway network, undergoing transformative changes as part of Indian Railways' ambitious station redevelopment program. They are fulfilling the vision of providing state-of-the-art amenities and services to commuters.
The redevelopment projects include improvements such as:
The redevelopment plan involves an investment of Rs. 367 crore for Yesvantpur station and Rs. 486 crore for Bengaluru Cantonment station, poised to set new benchmarks in railway station infrastructure, enhancing passenger comfort, convenience, safety and to provide a comfortable waiting area for passengers, multi-level parking area, a play zone for children, and a platform for local products to be showcased and sold, as both stations are elevated into a world-class facility connecting both sides of the station with dedicated entries and a spacious roof plaza.
Hon’ble MoSR Shri V. Somanna instructed Railway officials to incorporate more greenery within the station premises, expand facilities for passenger resting areas, and ensure the quality of construction for timely completion of the work at Yesvantpur. Additionally, at Bengaluru Cantonment, he emphasized the importance of preserving the heritage of the station building. Hon’ble MP Shri P. C. Mohan requested improvements to the parking facility, while Shri Rizwan Arshad urged for the connection of the proposed metro station to the station entry.
Acknowledging the strategic significance of Yeswantpur and Bengaluru Cantonment Station, Hon’ble Minister Shri V.Somanna emphasized its role as a crucial junction connecting suburban railways, mainline routes, and metro lines. He underscored the station's pivotal role in catering to the growing transportation needs of the region, foreseeing substantial traffic volume in the next two to three decades.
Hon’ble Minister Shri V. Somanna heard the Hon’ble Prime Ministers Monthly “Mann ki Baat” along with GM SWR and Senior railway officials at Rail House, Bengaluru cantonment.
Shri Arvind Srivastava, General Manager of South Western Railway; Shri Yogesh Mohan, Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru; Shri Ramgopal, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction); Shri Aneesh Hegde, Joint Director (PG) to Hon’ble MoSR; Principal Heads of Departments of South Western Railway; Dr. Manjunath Kanamadi, Chief Public Relations Officer; and senior officials from the Karnataka State Government were also present during the inspection.
Hon’ble Minister Shri V. Somanna expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work being executed by the dedicated teams involved in the redevelopment projects. He assured that the Ministry of Railways remains committed to completing these projects within stipulated timelines while adhering to quality standards.
