The Mechanical Department of Hubli Division is headed by The Sr. Divisional mechanical Engineer(Coordination) who is assisted by Sr. Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Operations and Freight), Asst. Divisional Mechanical Engineer(Division Office), Coaching Depot officer(Hubli Coaching Depot) and Asst. Divisional Mechanical Engineer(Hosapete Wagon Depot). The Mechanical department mainly takes care of the two functions i.e. Carriage & wagon and Power:
Activities of Carriage and Wagon:
Maintenance of Coaching Stock.
Maintenance of Freight Stock.
Linen management activities of primary maintained trains of Hubli Division.
On-Board housekeeping activities in primary maintained trains of Hubli Division.
Maintenance of In-motion Weighbridges of Hubli Division.
Upkeep of Accident Relief Trains & 140 tonne Crane and Medical Relief Trains.
Sick Attention of Coaching as well as freight stock.
Activities of Power
There are 8 crew booking lobbies located at Hubballi (UBL), Castle-Rock (CLR), Hosapete (HPT), Vasco-da-Gama (VSG), Belagavi (BGM), Vijayapura (BJP), Ballari (BAY) & Toranagallu (TNGL) and crews are booked through Crew Management System (CMS) Provided by CRIS/NDLS.
There are 8 Running rooms provided for crew’s rest at Hubballi (UBL), Castle-Rock (CLR), Hosapete (HPT), Vasco-da-Gama (VSG), Belagavi (BGM), Vijayapura (BJP), Ballari (BAY), Toranagallu (TNGL) and have been outsourced for Security, upkeep, maintenance and catering. All the running rooms are provided with AC & having ISO certification.
There are 5 rest rooms provided for crew’s rest at Kulem (QLM), Londa (LD), Dharwad (DWR), Gadag (GDG) and Karatagi (KRTGI). The rest room of Londa (LD) is Departmentally Maintained and rest rooms at Kulem (QLM), Dharwad (DWR), Gadag (GDG) and Karatagi (KRTGI)are out sourced for Security, upkeep and maintenance.
There are 5 Railway Consumer Depots (RCDs) situated at Hubballi (UBL), Castle-Rock (CLR), Hosapete (HPT), Vasco-da-Gama (VSG) & Vijayapura (BJP)
There are 7 interchange points at Bellary, Rayadurga, Karajgi, Hotgi, Miraj and Madgaon, Majorda.
The critical Braganza Ghat section between CLR-QLM (26 KMs) continuous falling gradient, with ruling gradient being 1 in 37, 59 BOXN loads are cleared with 5 WDG-4 loco in consist fitted with Auto Emergency Braking system (AEB) down the Ghat from CLR-QLM. From QLM-CLR all the 59 BOXN loads are cleared with 2WDG4 Locomotives as leading and 3 WDG-4 locomotives as Banking.
