Catering Services:-

  • There are 42 pantry cars running on SWR serving 21 long distance trains.To cater to those trains that do not have Pantry cars, 9 sections have been identified for Mail / Express trains and 8 sections for passenger trains for Train Side Vending (TSV).So far tendering of 4 sections has been finalized for Mail/Express trains. Further bids have been received for 7 sections (1 section bid not received) for Passenger trains. Out of 07 sections, 03 sections LOA has been issued, 01 section under finalization & 03 sections under process.


  • Food Plaza,Jan/Rail Ahaars, Fast food Courthave been set up to ensure the provision of good quality and hygienic food at affordable price. The details are as below:

  • In addition to the above 19 Mobile catering units operated by licensees and 4 IRCTC operated mobile catering units have been provided for the Rail users.Further there are a large number of catering stalls, cell kitchens, Automatic Vending machines (AVMs) are available at station platforms to provide tea, snacks, essential food items etc.

  • The process of identifying the space in Railway Premises for Base Kitchen has been completed. Base kitchen is existing at Bengaluru and space allotted to the licensees at Mysuru, Yesvantpur & Vasco-da-gama. Licensees have been advised to setup properly equipped base kitchens.Provision of efficient drainage and waste discharge management including pollution control are the statutory obligation to be ensured by the licensee and Railway is regularly checking these aspects.
