Modernization in RPF

Introduction to Modern Gadgets

1. DFMD DOOR FRAME METAL DETECTORS – WALK-THROUGH METAL DETECTORS

A Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD) as the name suggests is a metal detector fitted in a door to detect metal that may be hidden on the body of the person passing through this door. This is also known as a “walk through” metal detector. These are used for security screening at access points in prisons, courthouses, and at airports to detect concealed metal weapons on a person’s body.

2.  Hand Held Metal Detectors

RPF staff are often required to scan patrons as they enter the premises and are also employing these devices to beef up their security. High quality hand held metal detectors will find concealed knives and weapons, foil wrapped drugs and other concealed metallic objects.

3. Baggage Scanners

Scanners can detect steel and non-metallic objects on the exterior of the body. Contrary to popular belief they cannot see inside body cavities or diagnose disease.

4. Under Vehicle Surveillance System

UVSS solutions are designed to scan, monitor, and digitally record crisp, clear digital video images of the entire width of a vehicle’s undersides—all with one permanent or portable system.

5. CCTV in public places

CCTV is designed to help prevent and detect crime.  It can reassure the public about community safety. It is located in public places to:

  • provide evidence to relevant enforcement agencies
  • maintain public order
  • prevent antisocial behaviour and nuisance
  • provide reassurance
  • promote economic well being

Cameras record images twenty four hours every day. CCTV operators watch lives images at strategic times in a local monitoring suite. If they notice criminal activity on camera, they can direct police response to the incide

Dog Squad

A dog's nose is reputed to be at the very least 10,000 times more sensitive to smells than human nose. The sense of smell is the dominant of a dog's senses followed by hearing and sight.

Notwithstanding the use of dogs for tracking, the recognition and utilisation of the canine sense of smell for a wide range of disciplines is relatively new and demand for detection dogs of recognised breeds outstrips supply.

There is a high demand for detection dogs and though there is a widespread use in so many areas, the prevention of terrorism puts explosive detection dogs at the top of the list closely followed by drug detection dogs.
