Shri Ishaq Khan

Principal Chief Electrical Engineer,

South Western Railway

Hubballi


Shri Ishaq Khan joined the 1987 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers after graduating in Electrical Engineering from Madan Mohan Malaviya Engineering College, Gorakhpur. Before joining the Indian Railways, he served as an Assistant Engineer in the UP State Electricity Board.

Shri Ishaq Khan has extensive experience in locomotive maintenance, operations, and design, having worked in various capacities in Central Railway, RDSO (Research Designs and Standards Organization), Eastern Railway, and South Eastern Railway. He has held positions such as Chief Workshop Manager/NKRD, Chief Workshop Manager/ELW/BSL, Additional Divisional Railway Manager/ ASN/ER, Divisional Railway Manager/HWH/ER and Principal Chief Electrical Engineer/SER

During his tenure at RDSO, he played a crucial role in finalizing the specifications of DPWCS for Electric Locomotives and the indigenous development of the product. As ED/Insp/RDSO at BHEL/JHS (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Jhansi), he ensured the quality of WAG7 Locomotives manufactured by BHEL.

As DRM/HWH, he was successful in leading his team of officers and staff to achieve several notable accomplishments on the Indian Railways, including the commissioning of 3 MW Solar Panels on the roof of Howrah Station, which was the highest capacity installed on the roof of any station in Indian Railway, and pioneering the commissioning of 750V supply for LHB rake/PC testing at coaching depots. During his tenure, Howrah division's Frieght handling also increased by more than 60%.

Shri Ishaq Khan has undergone various training programs at prestigious institutes in India and abroad, including NAIR (National Academy of Indian Railways), ISC/Hyderabad (Indian School of Business, Hyderabad), IIM/Indore (Indian Institute of Management, Indore), INSEAD/Singapore, ICLIF/Malaysia, and SDA Bocconi School of Management/Italy.

In his current role as Principal Chief Electrical Engineer/South Western Railway, Shri Ishaq Khan plays a crucial role in expediting electrification projects across the South Western Railway territory. He is also involved in infrastructure development for homing of Electric Locomotives in Diesel Sheds and in training staff to enhance their competence in Electric Locomotive Maintenance and Operation, Traction Distribution, and Traction Installation. Furthermore, he is committed to promoting Energy conservation and adopting Energy-Efficient technologies in both Traction and Non-Traction areas.

Outside of his professional achievements, Shri Ishaq Khan is known for his all-round sporting abilities and regularly plays badminton.
