                                                                                        PROFILE OF ‘PCSO’

  Shri. Alok Tiwari is an officer of the 1988 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE).

Shri. Tiwari has held a variety of positions on the Railways and its public sector undertakings in the course of his illustrious career spanning about 32 years. He served as Division Railway Manager, Guntakal in SCR prior to joining as PCSO in SWR.

Starting his career on Southern Railway (SR), he has since gone on to serve South Western Railway (SWR) in various capacities including Deputy Chief Engineer Constructions, Senior Divisional Engineer (Co-ordination) of the Bangalore division, Chief General Engineer of SWR, and Chief Engineer Constructions of SWR among others. He has also served as the Chief Project Manager/Group General Manager of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (a PSU of the Ministry of Railways) heading its Karnataka & Goa projects. As DRM, he was instrumental in raising speed to 130 kmph in Renigunta-Wadi section of Golden Quadrilateral route between Chennai-Mumbai for 1060 km length and completing long pending traffic facility works of new crossing station, yard remodelling at Tirupati, addl. loop line, electronic interlocking with 350 routes at Gooty and 7 other stations. Guntakal Railway Station was also developed as modern building alike airport building with state of art facilities for passengers on green building concept which was awarded as Golden Rating by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

Shri. Tiwari is credited with commissioning over 500km of Gauge Conversion, New line, Doubling, and yard remodelling works so far. He also spearheaded construction of the state-of-the-art Indian Railway Institute of Disaster Management (IRIDM) at Hejjala (near Bangalore). A first of its kind on Indian Railways, he also instituted environment friendly initiatives such as planting over 14000 trees to create a mini forest using the Miyawaki concept, and translocating over 80 trees that had been earmarked for uprooting in his jurisdiction. Under his aegis, the Karnataka and Goa projects of RVNL won the Best Project Implementation Unit Award from the Minister for Railways in 2015. Additionally, he has been decorated with four General Manager awards for his exemplary service.

Shri. Tiwari holds a B.Tech and M.Tech in Civil Engineering and had a brief stint with the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) prior to joining the Indian Railway Service. He has attended several management programs at premier institutes such as IIMs, ISB, XLRI as well as the Asian Development Bank. He is widely travelled, having visited France, Switzerland, Austria, Singapore and Malaysia for various training programs on project management, tunnelling and high-speed rail systems.
