
Sanjeev Kishore, IRSME, is working as the General Manager of South Western Railway (SWR) with effect from 30.7.2021. Earlier, he served as Additional Member (Production Units) of Railway Board.
An alumnus of Indian Railway Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE), Jamalpur, Mr. Sanjeev Kishore earned a PG diploma in management from MDI Gurgaon (with all four gold medals including Prime Minister’s medal and Finance Minister’s medal for Best Overall Performance) and has completed the Executive Fellow Programme (Doctoral Level) in Strategic Management from MDI Gurgaon. He has undergone training in Advanced Strategic Management at Carnegie Mellon University, USA, Executive Leadership Programme at SDA Bocconi, Italy and has several research papers to his credit.
He has handled UNDP assisted project for upgradation of capabilities in Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala (1998); Transfer of technology from LHB, Germany and Fiat, Italy and Switzerland, crashworthy coach design project of RITES (2003-09) involving collaboration with expert organizations of USA and several public, private sector organizations in India. He has been instrumental in starting of export of rail wheels and axle sets from India (Rail Wheel Factory, Yelahanka, Bengaluru) to Mozambique.
He is a recipient of the National Award (Minister of Railways Award) for Meritorious Service in 2003.He is a Fellow of Institutions of Engineers India, and Institution of Mechanical Engineers, United Kingdom.
Shri Kishore has served as Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, Rail Wheel Factory wherein he was responsible for several innovative solutions such as Automatic Scrap Wheel Cutting, Thermal Sand Recycling etc. He has worked as Chief Mechanical Engineer, COFMOW, New Delhi, Chief Safety Officer of North East Frontier Railway Zone, Guwahati, Divisional Railway Manager, Alipurduar during which he was responsible for decongestion of one of the busiest routes by conceptualization and commissioning of the new Y-leg between BG-I and the new line (NCB - NCBD) in Alipurduar division of NFR. During his role as General Manager, Centre for Railway Information Systems he contributed to the improvement of Coaching Management System and developed state of the art information systems. He has worked as Chief Rolling Stock Engineer, North Eastern Railway. As Executive Director (Mechanical Engineering/Development) he was involved with introduction of bio-toilets in passenger coaches across Indian Railways. As Additional GM and GM RITES, he has been responsible for development of crashworthy passenger coach design & special purpose wagons. As Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Coaching), Mumbai he received the prestigious National Award for Outstanding Service, 2003 from Hon’ble Minister of Railways. Shri Sanjeev Kishore has worked in Rail Coach Factory in various capacities: as Works Manager (Shell) in RCF, he was responsible for establishing shell production in the initial years of RCF and was also the co-author of the RCF Welding Manual (1989-1991). Shri Kishore achieved steep rise in shell production and won the GM’s Award in 1991.
Some of the highlights from his recent achievements include the construction and commissioning of Cooch Behar Rail Museum, in-house automation of PC-Bay scrap cutting operation at RWF Bengaluru and commissioning the Sand Reclamation plant at RWF Bengaluru.
