1.0 HISTORY
South Western Railway has been operational since 1st April 2003 with headquarters at Hubli in the state of Karnataka. This Railway covers states of Karnataka (84%) predominantly and parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Goa and Maharashtra.

There has been a perceptible improvement in Railway services across this region, since the formation of SWR 517 km of new lines, 598 km of gauge conversion and 1138 km of doubling have been commissioned. 110 numbers of new Express / Passenger trains have been introduced. Apart from this, services of many trains have been extended and frequency of some trains increased for the benefit of travelling public.
