Railway Protection Force

              We shall protect and safeguard railway passengers, passenger area and railway property.

    Promote the safety, security and boost the confidence of the travelling public on the Indian railways.

  

OBJECTIVES

        We shall carry on an unrelenting fight against criminals in protecting railway passengers, passenger area and railway property. Facilitate passenger safety and security by removing all anti-social elements from trains, railway premises and passenger area.

       Remain vigilant to prevent trafficking in women and children and take appropriate action to rehabilitate destitute children found in railway areas. Co-operate with other departments of the railways in improving the efficiency and the image of the Indian railways.

       Act as a bridge between the Government Railway Police/Local Police and the railway administration. Adopt proactively all modern technology, best human rights practices, management techniques and special measures for protection of female and elderly passengers and children, in the pursuit of these objectives.

                                       History of South Western Railway

          South Western Railway was created by amalgamating the re-organized Hubli division from South Central Railway and Bangalore & Mysore divisions from Southern Railway. It has been operational from 1st April 2003 having the headquarters at Hubli in the state of Karnataka. The Railway comprises of 03 divisions, viz.  Hubli, Bangalore & Mysore and primarily caters to Karnataka state with 84% of its jurisdiction located there.  The balance 16% of its route length falls in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Goa.


          Bangalore division of this zone is passenger oriented while Hubli & Mysore divisions are fright oriented.  Bangalore city is a world famous Information Technology hub of India.  Hubli and Mysore are having important tourist places. This Railway hosts a large number of world heritage sites.  Some of the important tourist destinations like Hampi ruins, Caves of Badami, Pattadakallu, Aihole, Goan Beaches come under the jurisdiction of Hubli division of this Railway.  Mysore division caters to the World famous Dasara celebrations and other historic places like Hoyasala dynasty’s monuments in Belur, Halebeedu, Somanathapura and the famous Jogfalls.


SECURITY COMMISSIONERATE

                Principal Chief Security Commissioner (PCSC/RPF) is the head of security department in the rank of IG. He is assisted by Chief Security Commissioner and Staff Officer (DIG/RPF).There are two intelligence branches namely Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) and Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) directly controlled by the security Commiserate for collection of intelligence regarding law and order, union matters, terrorist activities and other offences against state.

                SIB is responsible to collect the intelligence and feed if to the offices of PCSC and Sr.DSC/DSC. CIB’s responsibility is to collect intelligence on crime against railway property, passengers and other petty crimes in passenger’s areas and on the railways and to feed the information to the offices of PCSC and Sr.DSC/DSC. Both SIB and CIB have one Inspector and a few other staff in every division.


SECURITY CONTROL ROOMS (SCR)

                The Security Commiserate has one zonal security control room (ZSCR) in the office. Every Sr.DSC/DSC has Divisional Security Control rooms (DSCR) in their offices. The Security Control Rooms work for 24 hrs a day. Urgent messages from the RPF posts/outposts, other departments of railway, GRP, Local Police and public are received by the SCRs. These messages are further communicated by the SCRs to PCSC/Sr.DSC /DSC and to other concerned officers.

                The urgent directives of the DG/RPF are flashed by the Railway Board Security Control Room (RBSCR) and are carried further down through ZSCRs, DSCRs up to the RPF /Post /out post. The public can utilize the SCRs for giving their suggestions complaints and information relevant to the security of railway and concerning the duties of RPF.


INTERNAL VIGILANCE GROUP (IVG)

                There is a group of RPF officers at Security commiserate specially formed for having vigilance on its own officers under the control of PCSC. Specific complaints against corrupt practices, unlawful activities of any member of the RPF over SWR are enquired in to by IVG and suitable actions against the members are taken by the competent authorities on the report of IVG. Public having a specific information about corrupt practices etc, of any member of the RPF over SWR can make specific complaints to the PCSC.
