Brief Overview:
The Electrical Department is headed by Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, assisted by Chief Electrical General Engineer, Chief Electrical Engineer (EEM), Chief Electrical Loco Engineer, Chief Electrical Distribution Engineer & Chief Motive Engineer (Diesel). PCEE/SWR is Electrical Inspector to GOI for SWR & overall in charge for Electrical & Diesel Traction, Railway Electrification and General Power Supply arrangements with assistance from various field units under him.

Presently, SW Railway is holding a total of 207 Electric Locomotives: ( 60 WAP7 & 58 WAG9HC) homed at KJM shed and (05 WAP7 & 84 WAG9HC) homed at UBL shed .Trip Attention is being given for Coaching Locomotives at KSR Bengaluru & SGT

RAILWAY ELECTRIFICATION (RE)
Railway Electrification will enable railways to shift towards Electric Traction from Diesel Traction, which in turn save the Diesel fuel besides better performance, saving time for traction change resulting in seamless operation and environment friendly.

ENERGY CONSERVATION / HARNESSING SOLAR ENERGY
South Western Railway cordially join hands for implementation of Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Solar Mission for harnessing Green Energy.
●Completed Rooftop Solar projects over SW Railway:
150kWp Rooftop Solar installed at Indian Railway Institute of Disaster Management (IRIDM) / HJL.

At Hubli Station an aggregated capacity of 280 kWp Grid Connected Solar Roof Top has been installed (on Developer Mode).

100 kWp Solar Roof top plant installed at Mysore Divisional office (on Developer Mode).

500 kWp Rooftop Solar Plant at Carriage & Repair Workshop, Mysuru (on Developer Mode) Shares approximately 50-55% of Workshop Energy requirements

DRM Office Bangalore has total installed capacity of 60 kWp (on Developer Mode)

250 kWp solar rooftop plant has been installed over Rail Soudha, SWR HQ (on DeveloperMode)

220 kWp solar rooftop plant has been installed over Belgaum Railway Station

100 kWp solar rooftop plant has been installed over Dharwad Railway Station
The total capacity of the Rooftop solar installation of SWR is 6357kWp. These solar installations contribute to a remarkable electricity generation of 56.9 Lakh units per annum and accrue a savings of 2.81 Crores per annum.(Figures 2023-24)
