Coaching Terminals

COACHING TERMINALS:

There are three major coaching terminals on South Western Railway. They are Bangalore, Mysore and Goa. Hubli station is presently only a pass through station. However, all the major terminals on the Railway are saturated.

BANGALORE:
a) The Bangalore stations as well as the maintenance facilities are over stretched, and no further trains can be terminated or maintained at Bangalore.

b) To over come the problem a new terminal has been developed at Yeshwanthpur. The first phase works are already completed and commissioned. Final phase of works has been sanctioned and is to be completed. However, even the final phase capacity at Yeshwanthpur will not be sufficient to cater to the needs of Bangalore for the future.

MYSORE:

The Mysore station, which is a relatively small station, is also fully utilized. The capacities of platform lines have also to be increased. The maintenance facilities also need improvement. As part of the Mysore-Chamarajanagar gauge conversion work all these requirements are being planned and being executed.

HUBLI:

Now that Hubli has become the Headquarters of a zone, significant improvements have to be made in the coaching facilities. Presently, both platforms and maintenance facilities are limited.

It is, now, planned to create a goods terminal at Navalur, with this, the goods facilities at Hubli can be progressively closed and the vacated space used for developing a proper coaching terminal.
