MECHANICAL BRANCH - SBC DIVISION

The mechanical branch of SBC division is headed by Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer, an IRSME Group A officer. The branch caters to maintenance of types of rolling stock and disaster management. The branch has two major coach maintenance depots (SBC & YPR), one minor coaching depot (SMVB), a MEMU shed (BAND), a DEMU shed (BNC) and a freight maintenance depot (WFD). 


The coaching depots collectively have a holding of 1746 coaches and have 55 primary maintained trains, 15 secondary maintianed trains and 56 PFTR trains. The sub-urban depot has a holding of 56 units of MEMU cars and 67 DEMU cars. The frieght depot has a holding of 10 closed circuit(CC) rakes of 450 BLC/BLL wagons.


The branch is also equipped with an A’ Class ART with 140T crane, Self-Propelled Accident Relief Medical Van (SPARMV) scale-1 for disaster management and a Self-Propelled Inspection Car (SPIC), RA’s for movement of officers.
