FREIGHT PROFILE

 

·SW Railway mainly loads Iron Ore (for JSW the major steel plant on SWR and other domestic users viz. Sesa Goa, BMM Ispat, MSPL, etc.), Coal, Iron & Steel, POL, Cement, Fertilizer, Container, Sugar & Maize. Granulated Slag, Granite, Coal Tar and Automobiles are also loaded on SWR.

·This railway has a major integrated steel plant namely JSW, at Toranagallu.  The raw material for this plant form a major component of the freight carried on this railway.  Also the finished products are carried from this plant to various destinations all over India.  SWR achieved loading of 6.69 Million Tons of Iron & Steel during 2022-23 (upto Jan 2023).

·This railway serves Mormugao Port Trust which is in Goa.  Coal is imported and Iron & Steel, Granite are exported through this port.  South Western Railway also serves the ports of Krishnapatnam and Chennai on east coast and Mangalore Port on west coast.

·Iron Ore is loaded from Bellary – Hospet and Chitradurga sector.

·Cement is loaded from the plants located at JK Cements (Muddapur near Bagalkot), Ginigera (Ultratech Cements), ACC Cement (Kuditini & Thondebhavi), Heidelberg Cement (Ammasandra), JSW Cement (Toranagallu).

·Sugar is loaded from Ugar Khurd, Raibag, Chikkodi Road stations of Hubli Division, Mysore New Goods Terminal and Nanjangod Town of Mysore Division and Maddur on Bangalore Division.

·Maize is loaded mainly from Ranebennur, Haveri, Amaravati Colony stations of Mysore Division and Koppal, Bagalkot, Munirabad, Gadag and Bijapur stations of Hubli Division.

·CONCOR has two ICDs on this railway viz. ICD at the Satellite Goods Terminal in Whitefield on Bangalore Division and at Desur on Hubli Division.

·Granite is loaded from Koppal, Bannikoppa and Settihalli.
